Taxation

During more than 28 years of operation, the firm gained knowledge and broad professional expertise in the taxation field. The firm provides first-class legal services, from consulting in the transaction’s design stage and providing opinions concerning its fiscal implications, up to handling approvals from the tax authorities or the completion of the litigation before the proper authorities or in courts. The firm provides detailed opinions concerning Israeli tax laws and where necessary works to receive pre-rulings and approvals from the tax authorities for innovative transaction outlines and thus makes it easier for its clients to conduct operations in Israel with tax certainty, and improves the operations’ tax structure, without resorting to court intervention. In addition, the firm represents Israeli and international clients in assessment proceedings, appeals, and court litigations - in district and supreme courts, and provides second opinions concerning the chances of appeals and settlement options.

Senior Partners

Adv. Yaniv Shekel - a senior partner, joined Shekel & Co. in 1995. Adv. Shekel has a B.A., Accounting (Magna cum Laude), from Tel Aviv University (1997), an LL.B. (Magna cum Laude), from Tel Aviv University (1998), an M.B.A. (Summa cum Laude), from Tel Aviv University (2004), and an LL.M. (Summa cum Laude) from Tel Aviv University, in cooperation with UC Berkeley (2005). Adv. Shekel specializes in taxation and commercial law and he accompanies various entities in substantial transactions and tax arrangements while creating synergy between the tax domain and the commercial law. Adv. Shekel represents before the district courts and the supreme courts. In addition he lectures in various forums, publishes articles in the field of taxation in professional journals and he is the chairman of the Tax Forum and the chairman of the Income Tax and Bookkeeping Committee of the Israel Bar Association.

Adv. Ofer Elboim - a senior partner, joined Shekel & Co. in 1996. Adv. Elboim has an LL.B. from Tel Aviv University (1996), a B.A., Accounting from Tel Aviv University, (1996), and an LL.M. (Summa cum Laude) from Tel Aviv University, in cooperation with UC Berkeley (2009). Adv. Elboim specializes in taxation (income tax, VAT and real-estate taxes), commercial law and real estate law, handles complex tax arrangements and represents in tax cases vis-à-vis the tax authorities, district courts and supreme court. In addition, Adv. Elboim lectures in various forums, publishes professional articles in the field of taxation and he is the chairman of the VAT and customs duty Committee of the Israel Bar Association.

Adv. Ayelet Hillel - Birenzwig - a senior partner, joined Shekel & Co. in 2007. Adv. Hillel - Birenzwig has a B.A., Business Administration and Accounting (2000), has an LL.M. from Bar-Ilan University (2003), and an LL.B. from Shaarei Mishpat College (2006). Adv. Hillel - Birenzwig is also a CPA. Her specialization is in taxation and in particular representation before the tax authorities, including handling pre-rulings, tax arrangements, and assessment discussions. Adv. Hillel - Birenzwig also lectures in various forums in the Israeli Bar Association, the Institute of CPAs in Israel, in professional seminars and has previously lectured in accounting and law departments at COMAS and IDC. She has also been the chairperson of the Israeli Bar Association’s Direct Taxes Committee.

Adv. Binyamin Tovi - a senior partner, joined Shekel & Co. in 2008. Adv. Tovi has an LL.B., Tel Aviv University (2005) and a B.A. in Accounting (Magna cum Laude), Tel Aviv University (2005). Adv. Tovi is also a CPA. Adv. Tovi specializes in international taxation, mergers and acquisitions, trusts, employee rewards and tax aspects of (PPP BOT, PFI) tenders and supports numerous Israeli and international clients in their business activities in Israel and abroad. He has also been the chairman of the International Taxation Committee of the Israeli Bar Association. Adv. Tovi lectures in various forums in the Israeli Bar Association, the Institute of CPAs in Israel, in professional seminars and has previously been an assistant lecturer in the accounting department of IDC and in Tel Aviv University.

Adv. Dean Klaro - a senior Partner, joined Shekel & Co. in 2010. Adv. Klaro has a B.A., Accounting from Tel Aviv University (2009), a LL.B. from Tel Aviv University (2010) and a M.B.A. in Business Administration, Tel Aviv University (2014). Adv. Klaro expertise on a number of tax fields including income tax and corporate tax, taxation of oil and gas profits and value added tax. Adv.
