About Dana Daraznin, Attorney and Mediator
The law firm of Adv. and Mediator Dana Daraznin is a boutique firm that practices family law, inheritance and guardianship, with an emphasis on amicable and mutually agreed dispute resolution. Adv. Daraznin, who heads the firm, has more than 30 years of experience as a lawyer, of which more than 20 years as a family and inheritance litigator.
Over the years, despite her numerous achievements, victories and precedents in the courts, she realized that the best and most effective way to achieve the desired results for her clients – resolving the dispute, with minimal harm and damage – is through an amicable dispute resolution, out of court, and a fast and effective process for reaching an agreement.
This understanding led her to focus on mediations and other approaches for agreeing on a solution. Over the years, she became one of the leading lawyers in this field in Israel.
Public Office and Professional Influence
As co-chairperson and co-founder of the Israeli Organization for Collaborative Divorce, former chairperson of the “Peaceful Divorces” association and former deputy chairperson of the Amicable Dispute Resolution Committee of the Israel Bar Association, Adv. Daraznin has been serving, over the past decade, a major role in promoting amicable dispute resolution in divorce processes in Israel, and for the purpose of these roles she maintains relationships with the Ministry of Justice, the various assistance agencies and the court administration. She also teaches and lectures in the Israel Bar Association, Bar Ilan University and other frameworks on the method of “Collaborative Divorces”, non-adversarial law and consensual dispute resolution and negotiation, and she has organized seminars and conferences in various frameworks in this field.
Three Decades of Professional Experience and Academic Excellence
Adv. Daraznin started her legal career as an intern in the civil department of the State Attorney South District Offices. In 1996 she founded, together with her husband, Adv. Nadav Daraznin, the law firm of Daraznin & Co. In 2002 she was certified as a family mediator and afterwards completed Israel’s first course in “collaborative divorce” of the Israel Bar Association, the Ministry of Justice and the U.S. Embassy. She has continued to train in advanced seminars in Israel and abroad on mediation and “collaborative divorce”. By education, she has an LL.B. (cum laude) from the University of East London, England (1992) and an LL.M. (cum laude) from Bar Ilan University (2009). Her LL.M.’s theses focused on collaborative divorces and led to a groundbreaking academic journal article which was published in HaMishpat.
A Mindset Shift as a Path to Agreements
Adv. Daraznin believes that one of her major tools for mediations and leading agreement processes for her clients is her empathic approach with an honest and realistic reflection of the situation – to the mediation parties and to her clients, with sensitivity, an attentive ear and deep understanding of the difficulties and the sensitivities. Adv. Daraznin doesn’t hesitate to hold a mirror up to her clients even when this requires courage and encounters resistance. It is this very place – where the defenses break down and internal change begins – that leads to breakthroughs and the optimal and fast settlement of the disputes. This mirroring enables the clients and other parties to the mediation to see the perspective of the other party, understand the impact of their actions, and switch from passive reaction to pro-active partnership in creating a solution. For example, a client who turned to the firm following a claim of parental alienation from her ex-husband, managed – through a counsel session with emotional containment and direct mirroring – to understand the sense of personal afront that her ex experienced and review her part in the situation. In another case with complex dynamics between the parties, she gently yet firmly exposed the fact that the relationship expresses verbal violence, and the parties recognition of this changed their approach and raised their willingness to seek a solution through dialogue rather than struggle. Such mindset shifts are a daily occurrence in Adv. Daraznin’s firm, and constitute the heart of her approach – a mix of compassion, sensitivity and vast experience in complex cases in this practice.
A Complete Legal – Economic Umbrella for the Clients
In light of the collaboration between Adv. Daraznin’s firm and the firm of her spouse, Adv. Nadav Daraznin, which practices real estate, corporate law and civil-commercial law, she offers her clients a comprehensive legal service also in complex cases, that integrate family aspects with business or real estate properties in Israel and abroad. The firm’s clients benefit from a complete legal and economic umbrella, with accurate and efficient handling of such complex cases, from a macro-perspective of all of the aspects – personal, family and business – in order to reach an optimal agreed-upon solution.
Amicable Dispute Resolution is Better Than Fanning the Flames in the Court
Adv. Daraznin works with a deep sense of mission to settle disputes through dialogue, understanding and compromises rather than exhausting power struggles and fanning the flames in legal proceedings. She believes that an agreed-upon solution not only saves time, money and emotional resources but also lays the foundation for a healthy and sustainable future for all parties involved, particularly when children are involved. She has a track record of numerous successes in family law, inheritances and guardianship, with only a small fraction of her cases requiring court intervention.
The Photography Exhibition “Seeing the Sound: Photographers Say No to Domestic Violence”
Beyond her work as a lawyer and a mediator, Adv. Daraznin is also a photographer, who initiated and served as the curator of a unique photography exhibition: “Seeing the Sound: Photographers Say No to Domestic Violence”, photographs inspired by popular Israeli songs which clarify the meaning of “transparent violent”.
The exhibition has been presented for several years in various institutes across Israel, including government ministries, hospital, academic institutes, municipalities and local authorities. In this framework, Adv. Daraznin also lectures on “Visible and Hidden Signs of Domestic Violence”.
In addition, Adv. Daraznin volunteers to photograph in various frameworks such as: photoshoots for the hostages and their families and the “Spearhead” project. She also photographed a tribute to Agam Berger – the IDF imagery analyst who was released from captivity – which was included in the Incomplete exhibition that was held near the Tel Aviv Culture Center.
