Dr. Yaron Berkovich, a knee and hip joint replacement specialist, serves as the Head of the Orthopedic Division,
Carmel Medical Center, Haifa. Dr. Berkovich was the first surgeon in Israel who performed a robotic knee joint replacement surgery, and is one of Israel’s pioneers in the field of robotic joint replacement surgeries.

Dr. Berkovich specializes in knee and hip replacement surgeries, including revision replacements and treatment of pathologies such as knee joint avascular necrosis. Dr. Berkovich is involved in the development of medical technology (applicative research) in the field of Orthopedics, and applies cutting-edge surgical technology and innovation in his field of practice.

Dr. Berkovich excellent reputation stems, in addition to his professional excellence and his status as a pioneer in his field, also from the excellent interpersonal relationships that he carefully maintains with his patients and colleagues at all times, and the end-to-end support that he offers, starting from the initial counsel and up to post-surgery recovery.
Formerly, Dr. Berkovich served as a senior physician in the Orthopedic Division of the Rambam Hospital, and as deputy director of the surgical unit.

Dr. Berkovich graduated from the Technion’s Faculty of Medicine, and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery in the Rambam Hospital. During his residency, he won the ESSKA (European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy) fellowship in knee surgery in the Ghent University Hospital in Belgium.
After completing his residency, Dr. Berkovich undertook a fellowship in knee and hip joint replacement surgery in the Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, Canada. Following this fellowship, he completed another fellowship in revision knee and hip replacement surgeries in the Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada.

The knee and hip joint are some of the most complex joints in the human body, and procedures for replacing them are some of the most common surgeries in the world. In most cases, the need for replacing the joint stems from degenerative processes that destroy the joint. In Israel alone, thousands of knee and hip joint replacement surgeries are performed annually.

In order to adapt the implant to the patient’s knee, accurate bone cuts most be performed. While traditionally, the measurements, calculations and cuts were performed manually while using mainly mechanical guides which are based on the patient’s anatomy, nowadays there is a revolutionary technology in the knee replacement surgeries field, where an extremely accurate robot assists the surgeon in performing the preliminary planning, calculations and cutting, with an accuracy level of up to one thousandth of a degree.
