Dr. Yona Yaniv

Dr. Yona Yaniv is a senior physician in the Hand Surgery Department of the Sheba – Tel HaShomer Hospital. She served as the director of the department from 2015 to 2021.

In the framework of her work in the hospital, Dr. Yaniv conducts hand surgeries of all types (from the fingertips to the elbow, inclusive), including wrist trauma and sports injuries. She also carries out joint replacements, repairs of peripheral nerves in the hand, wrist arthroscopy, repairs of ligaments or fractures and corrections of bone malformations through 3D technology.

In addition, she specializes in treating primary upper extremity illnesses such as hand arthritis, trigger finger, tendonitis, tennis elbow etc. It should be noted that the department where Dr. Yaniv works is the only dedicated hand surgery department in Israel, as opposed to units which operate in the framework of orthopedic or plastic surgery departments.

A Specialist in the Private Sector

In parallel with her work in public healthcare, Dr. Yaniv works as a specialist in the private sector, both in the Medix clinic in the Olympic Experience Building in Tel Aviv (A multidisciplinary center for sports medicine and physiotherapy) and in the clinic of TLV Medical (A multidisciplinary surgery center) which is located in Ramat HaHayal, Tel Aviv. Dr. Yaniv operates privately in the medical center of Ramat Aviv and in TLV Medical.

Fellowships and Training in Israel and Abroad

Dr. Yaniv graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Tel Aviv University and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery in the Ichilov Hospital and a fellowship in hand surgery in the Sheba Medical Center, Tel HaShomer. Over the years, she underwent several trainings in wrist arthroscopy, wrist and finger trauma and tendon transfers for improving the hands function of persons who suffer from tetraplegia.

A Professional Authority in the Field of Hand Surgery

Over the years, Dr. Yaniv acquired a reputation as a professional authority in her field of practice, which leads her to serve as an expert witness, as a Board examiner in medicine studies- orthopedics and hand surgery, and also as member of the examination writing team for the Stage A Orthopedic examination. In addition, she is also an instructor of the Hand Surgery course in the Ono Academic College Occupational Therapy program.

Beyond her vast clinical experience, she has an extensive academic background which includes instructing in Wrist Arthroscopy course at the IRCAD center in Strasbourg, France, and serving as a member of teaching staff of AO Trauma. Formerly, she served as chairperson of the Israeli Society for Surgery of the Hand and is a member of the Israeli Orthopedic Surgery Association, the Israeli Society for Surgery of the Hand and the International Wrist Arthroscopy Society.
