The firm of Lahav & Cohen is a unique law firm specializing in tort, insurance law, and representation of victims before public and private entities, mainly the National Insurance Institute (NII), the Ministry of Defense (MoD), and Israel’s largest insurance companies.
The firm was founded in 2019 through a merger between the firms of its seasoned and experienced partners, Adv. Yaron Lahav (14 years of experience) and Adv. Assaf Cohen (11 years of experience), who accompany their clients personally, devotedly and determinedly throughout the entire legal journey. Practice Areas

National Insurance Institute – Proven Experience Before Medical Committees
The firm represents victims before the committee of the NII – including claims for general disability, workplace accidents, military reserves service, work-related disability and occupational diseases. The team prepares the clients thoroughly for their appearance before the committee, builds a high-quality medical case, and professionally file every document and claim – with uncompromising protection of the client’s rights. The Ministry of Defense – Professional and Thorough Representation Before the Rehabilitation Department
One of the firm’s main areas of practice is representation of soldiers, policepersons, standing army personnel and members of the defense institute before the committees of the Ministry of Defense. Over the years, the team has successfully represented many dozens of combatants and members of the defense institute who were injured in their military or defense service (including some who were injured in the October 7 Attacks). Owing to its deep familiarity with the Rehabilitation Department, the firm has managed to achieve recognition of complex injuries and obtain disability percentages and significant compensations – also in cases which were initially rejected. Selected Cases

Recognition of a Claim from 2008 and an Overall Disability Percentage of 58%
Representation of a senior police officer who was injured, in the framework of his service, in several separate cases, but due to his status as a senior commander he elected not to file for compensation. After 30 years of service, his medical condition deteriorated and he decided to file a claim against the National Insurance Institute. He opened a recognition file for several events, the most severe of which occurred in 2008, about 14 years prior to opening the case. The NII rejected the claim and thus started a long legal proceeding that included examination of experts before the court and concluded with a ruling that the injury occurred during and as a result of his work. An additional proceeding of medical committees determined that the officer permanent disability rating would be 58%.
Full Exemption from Income Tax up to NIS 400,000 per Year
The firm represented a policeman in a claim to the Pensions Officer following a severe injury in the field. In light of the client’s economic situation and the high disability ranking that the Disability Committee determined, it has been decided to file an income tax exemption claim. After preparing the files and attaching expert opinions the claim was filed and the ruling determined a weighted disability percentage of 90% (120% unweighted) entitling a full income tax exemption for up to NIS 400,000 annually.
Permanent 87% Disability
Representing a policeman who was injured in combat on October 7th. The firm accompanied the client from the moment of the injury, in the hospital, and up to the final committee (out of 7 committees) which determined a permanent 87% disability. Afterwards the firm accompanied the policeman in a line-of-duty disability retirement proceeding.
Increasing Recognized Disability Percentages from 7% to 37% Permanently
The firm represented a client who sustained a hand injury following a road accident at work. The client formerly applied for recognition of the severity of his condition but was rejected over and over again. The firm referred him to experts for preparing professional opinions, and his disability percentages were raised from 7% to 37% permanently in the Condition Deterioration Committee.
