Prof. Jacob Ollech

Prof. Jacob Ollech is one of Israel’s leading experts in gastroenterology and liver diseases, renowned for combining extensive clinical experience, pioneering academic research, and a patient-centered approach to care.
He has been serving as Director of the Institute of Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases at the Meir Medical Center since November 2025, a position in which he leads a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of digestive and liver disorders.

Training and International Expertise

Prof. Ollech earned his medical degree from Semmelweis University and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Hadassah Medical Center and Rabin Medical Center (Beilinson Hospital).
He further advanced his expertise through a prestigious fellowship at the University of Chicago, specializing in the treatment and research of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). This accumulated international experience established his reputation as an internationally recognized authority in the field.

Gastroscopy – A brief and minimally invasive procedure that enables direct visualization of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Colonoscopy – A key procedure for the early detection of colorectal polyps and colorectal cancer, as well as for diagnosing inflammatory bowel diseases. Colonoscopy can also help prevent cancer through the removal of precancerous polyps before they progress.

Earlier in his career, Prof. Ollech directed the multidisciplinary clinic for patients following restorative colectomy (“Pouch Clinic”) at Rabin Medical Center, reflecting his extensive expertise regarding the management of complex cases that require close collaboration across multiple medical specialties.

As an active researcher with over 70 publications in leading peer-reviewed medical journals, Prof. Ollech is positioned at the forefront of global medical research. His contribution to the scientific community additionally includes membership in the Israeli Gastroenterology Association and the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization. Moreover, he teaches in the Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University and serves on the Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Specialty Examination Committee.
