Prof. Morris Hartstein is renowned as one of Israel’s and the world’s leading experts in oculoplastic surgery. This highly specialized field combines ophthalmology with plastic and reconstructive surgery of the eyes, eyelids, orbit, and tear drainage system. Over a career spanning more than three decades, Prof. Hartstein established an international reputation as a surgeon, researcher, and educator, combining clinical excellence, surgical innovation, and a sophisticated aesthetic approach. The synergy between his extensive experience both in Israel and abroad and the treatment of thousands of patients and highly complex cases, positioned him as a leading authority in his field.

Specialized Expertise in Complex and Rare Cases

Prof. Hartstein specializes in both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures of the eyes and face, including eyelid surgery, correction of drooping eyelids (ptosis), treatment of tumors around the eye, orbital surgery, tear duct obstruction procedures, and complex reconstructions due to trauma or tumor removal.
Over the course of his career, he performed over 15,000 advanced surgical procedures and developed extensive expertise regarding the management of rare medical conditions and sophisticated oculoplastic interventions.
Prof. Hartstein received his medical training in the United States. After earning a degree in Chemistry from Columbia University, he attended medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, followed by residency in Ophthalmology at New York University School of Medicine (Bellevue) and subsequently undertook a prestigious fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard University, and at New England Eye Center at Tufts University under the mentorship of some of the world’s most renowned specialists.

Prof. Hartstein is regarded as one of the pioneers of oculoplastic surgery in Israel and has played a significant role in introducing and advancing innovative surgical techniques within the specialty. The combination of his extensive U.S. training and his professional activity in Israel has positioned him among the country’s most respected experts in the field.

His prominent achievements include membership in leading international professional organizations in ophthalmology and reconstructive surgery. In addition, he is also the only Israeli ophthalmologist who is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, one of the most prestigious medical institutions worldwide.
His expertise regarding the treatment of complex and rare conditions has drawn patients from Israel as well as worldwide, seeking advanced surgical care and specialized treatment.

Research and Academic Contributions

Alongside his clinical practice, Prof. Hartstein holds significant academic appointments including his position as a Clinical Associate Professor at the Gray Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University. . He also serves as Head of the Oculoplastic Surgery Unit at Shamir Medical Center, Department of Ophthalmology (Assaf Harofeh).
