What recent key move did you lead?
Along with my partner, Adv. Michael Bach, and through teamwork of the firm’s staff, we recently led to several significant achievements to the public in several motions for the certification of class actions, including:
Winning the certification of a class action against leading insurance companies regarding their policy not to pay interest, as lawfully required, on the insurance compensations, which creates an incentive for these companies to hold the payments for the insured in order to exhaust them and cause them to let go or compromise.
A settlement agreement with one of the leading telecommunication companies due to faulty services that it provided in the area of filtering content that is offensive to children on the internet. In the framework of the settlement, the company committed to return NIS 12 million to the public and provided a solution for the future, that would help mitigate the risk of exposing children to offensive content.
A settlement agreement with one of the largest car manufacturers and its importer, due to a serial fault in the vehicles’ clutch pedal, which solved a safety issue that risked the owners of the vehicles.
What are the firm’s strongest attributes?
First of all, we are a “Boutique” firm, in the full sense of the word. The firm’s team, which we choose with the utmost care, consists of lawyers with broad and multi-disciplinary academic and practical backgrounds, who graduated from Israel’s leading higher-education institutions. Our team is skilled and experienced, and works cooperatively in a way that enables us to reach the qualities of a leading “boutique” firm. Second, in parallel with maintaining an uncompromising level of professionalism, we take great care to verify that our staff consists of positive people, with honesty and integrity. Third, the vast majority of the cases we handle are cases where we see meaning and a sense of mission, so that we can enjoy not only from the intellectual challenges of our work, but also from supporting the values for which we fight. The combination of these factors constitutes, in my opinion, the firm’s strength.
What are the main challenges facing the firm in the next few years?
The class actions field, which constitutes a significant part of our activities, is a dynamic field, which constantly goes through significant changes, and a re-design of “the rules of the game”. An accurate and attentive management of a class action may lead to significant achievements for the public. On the opposite side, an erroneous management of a class action might cause great harm. Our colleagues who represent the defendants are first-class attorneys, leading, talented, and creative, and know very well how to identify any inaccuracy in the management of the case. Therefore, we must carefully select the battles that we manage for the public, and we must manage them with maximal accuracy, throughout all of the years during which the case is managed, in order to reach achievements for the benefit of the public, and help shape the legal landscape correctly.
